About

Exterior of Unicorn Bar, with rainbow lighting

Unicorn Bar is the third in a string of three bars that have resided at 224 Foxhall Avenue in Midtown Kingston over the last nearly 90 years.

In 1938 the location opened as the Kozy Tavern, and with a couple of late era management changes, remained the Kozy until August of 2017, when, after being shuttered for a couple of years, it reemerged with a vengeance and a meticulous appreciation of its history as The Beverly Lounge.

In 2020, due to the COVID pandemic, The Beverly Lounge was forced to shut down, and the space remained empty until the spring of 2024 when it reopened as Unicorn Bar. Unicorn Bar was fortunate to be able to retain many of the original details at 224 Foxhall, including the 100+ year old "Cassidy Bar," with its original clock, refrigeration and lighting, and the 1940's telephone booth. The now disco-ball adorned Unicorn Ballroom in the back hosts a plethora of events from live music to burlesque to weddings, but at one point was a roller rink and a concert hall.

At Unicorn Bar we respect and appreciate our truly beautiful, unique and historic space. We continuously pinch ourselves at our good fortune and that we were able to realize our dream to create a home for our queer and creative community in Kingston, NY.
